It is not difficult to find that the windshield glue is actually applied on the ink of the glass, rather than directly bonded to the glass, so it is not difficult to understand why the strength time of different brands of glass varies. Because the process composition of the bonding ink (black edge) is different, and a glass manufacturer may have different ink suppliers, the experimental results are also different.


It can be seen that there are many factors that affect the sealant bonding test.

The first factor: bonding substrate

As mentioned above, the bonding substrate that the product directly contacts is ink (black edge). In real life, taking polyurethane glue as an example, the bonding substrate includes porous substrates such as metal, ceramic, glass, and wood, while plastics such as PP and PE cannot be directly bonded. Therefore, glass glue or structural glue cannot be equated with universal glue. Due to the different bonding substrate materials, before using the product, in order to ensure the final bonding effect, a bonding test must be performed first.

In order to avoid the situation where the bonding force is not ideal and the strength is slow to form due to ink, it is recommended that you use a bonding promoter before applying the glue, fully clean the bonding base surface, and then perform the glue test.

The second factor: test environment

Different test environments will also affect the strength and curing speed of the adhesive. Taking single-component polyurethane adhesive as an example, the curing speed is greatly affected by the local temperature and humidity. Although polyurethane adhesive has good adaptability to the use environment and can be used normally in the range of -40 degrees Celsius and 90 degrees Celsius, temperature changes will seriously affect the construction of the adhesive and affect the use effect.

Therefore, when we test, we must give the product sufficient reaction time. We recommend that this time be after 168 hours, that is, let it fully cure for a week, and then check the effect of the product leaving residual glue.


In addition, some customers use two different products to conduct comparative tests on the adhesion of the same piece of glass. They find that some products that focus on adhesion have a lower residual adhesive effect on the glass than many low-priced products. What is the reason?

Many products that focus on high-strength bonding have a long time to form the body strength, and it takes longer to form the interface strength through interface infiltration, so the interface strength test performance is not good in a short time. However, after the bonding strength is fully cured, its bonding strength test is higher and the service life is longer. This is difficult to achieve with low-end products with low strength.
