Many woodworking projects require the use of glue to join, but there are many types of wood glue, and the choice of wood glue depends on the material you are bonding, the size or type of joint you are making, and the way the finished product is used.
1.PVA(polyvinyl acetate) Glue
Polyvinyl acetate glue is a more common woodworking glue, and I believe that all wood friends will have a place in their homes or workshops. There are also different types of PVA adhesives, the most common of which is yellow aliphatic resin adhesives (yellow glue), which began to appear in the 20th century and is commonly used in woodworking workshops.
Another very popular PVA glue is Elmer's white glue. It is non-toxic, can be easily cleaned with water, and the joint is relatively strong after curing. The only disadvantage of PVA adhesives is that they do not absorb the stain as well as wood, so if the glue is not wiped off or sanded off before dyeing, the excess glue remaining on the surface of the wood can still be seen after the wood is dyed.
2.Polyurethane Glue
If the position you want to bond is very critical and the strength required is very high, such as when making woodworking fixtures, the first choice at this time must be polyurethane adhesive. Polyurethane adhesive has good water resistance, so it is suitable for outdoor furniture projects that are heavily affected by rain weather.
However, care must be taken when using it on final assembly projects, as it expands with the setup and can get glue all over the place, so it is best to use it only on projects that need to be sanded or planed to get the final effect.
3.Hide Glue
Hide glue: As the name suggests, it is made from animal skin and is one of the oldest adhesives in use today.
Traditionally, it comes in a dried flake or granulated form, which is then melted using a pot and used warm.
Leather glue has some desirable properties that make it the glue of choice when making antique furniture or when planning a restoration project in the future.
Simply heat any glue points, the glue will be loose, and the furniture can be disassembled for repair. Unlike other glues, leather glue can be dyed and is non-toxic
It can resist different elements such as water, heat and ultraviolet light, and can also adhere to a variety of materials, including plastics and metals.
However, even if it is used in the right position, it will produce a very strong bond, but epoxy glue is not suitable for bonding very tight joints.
4.Epoxy Glue
Epoxy glue is a two-component glue:one is a resin and the other is a curing agent, and when mixed together, they cure and form a super glue, which is mainly used to fill gaps in wood or repair damaged wood.
5.CA Glue
CA glue dries quickly and comes in both liquid and gel forms. We all know super glue or fast drying glue, this is actually its trade name,in fact, its common name is cyanoacrylate or CA glue.Although CA glue can bond almost everything, that doesn't mean it can be used for a lot of bonding, and is best ised for small repair jobs, such as bonding splintered wood or cracked wood.
